- Video of Staten Island Chuck biting the hand
that
wants to put him on a diet, ban his salt, and disarm his
furry little tucchus.
To All,
Apparently kudos are in order for the smart NRA staffer who signed Staten
Island Chuck up for a Life Membership. Perhaps with a few more donations
from a grateful membership, Chuck can be upgraded to Benefactor.

Animals Are More Equal Than Others Update:
Face it- Sheriff Sandra Hutchens has apparently made Orwell's
"Animal Farm" required reading among the NKVD types she imported into
the Orange County Sheriff's Office Senior Management Staff.
What else could explain their exchanging of derogatory emails about a large
number of citizens, activists, and even Orange County Supervisors that took
the time to attend an Orange County Board of Supervisor's Meeting? ( Budget
increase, what budget increase?)
Or, for their failure to grok that emails sent on publicly-perked
Blackberries might just be accessible to the public through the PRAR
process? (Calling Rosemary Woods- Please call 714-647-7000, they might just
have a gig for you...).
Or that the famously thick hides of such practiced public servants as Janet
Nguyen and Chris Norby can only resist so much scorching before they decide
to extinguish the source of the fire now billowing from Sheriff Hutchens'
office.
What is clear is that Hutchens and her winged monkeys have failed to
understand that age-old motto of the political classes ("...when one
finds oneself in a hole, the first step is to stop digging..."). Whether
that little idiosyncrasy will translate into political change in the OC
Sheriff's Office in the next election will remain to be seen. Stay tuned.

Career
Interruptus:
Fox News has announced that former Senator-cum-gun-banner Tom Daschle has
withdrawn his name for nomination to be Health and Human Services Secretary
to Presidente-Supremo Barack Obama (Tom Daschle could have been in charge of
the CDC, among other things.).
Daschle has apparently fallen afoul of the same failure-to-pay-taxes problem
that caused Treasury Secretary Timothy Geitner some discomfort, and has
caused Nancy Killefer to withdraw her name from nomination as "chief
performance officer" under the Obama Administration (Killefer was apparently
on the IRS Oversight Board back during the Clinton Administration, and has
had a number of tax problems in the past.).
Hopefully this will slow down the proposed damage to 17% of the US economy
that Daschle was supposed to be shepherding through the Congress in the form
of National Health Care. Perhaps if the nation's tort bar could be made to
understand that a truly National Health Care could involve extending
sovereign immunity to the nation's medicos, in exchange for
government-backed salaries and a 40-hour work week, this major campaign
plank of the Obama Campaign can be sent to the circular file. Stay tuned.

Psycho
Job Killer, Quest Que Se?
Quinn Hillyer writes at DCExaminer.com about the soon-to-be-in-effect rule
banning lead and pthalates from products used by children 12 and under.
It seems that a whole bunch of small stores, second hand stores, electronic
stores, and (yes) fishing tackle and sporting goods stores may be, at the
least, banned from selling products to and for children enjoying traditional
outdoor activities.
Period.
That appears to include a goodly portion of the fishing weights and crappie
jigs out there have lead alloy in them. Or that the venerable .410 and .22
long rifle cartridges used at Boy Scout camps and youth shoots have lead in
them. Transfer is transfer, and children under the age of 12 may just be
banned by rule from handling such mundane items.
Of course, it takes a Congress led by Nancy Pelosi to come up with such a
rule in the first place. But those who have been concerned that bullet bans
will become the latest front on disarming the American people now have been
partially vindicated in focusing in on what would normally seem to be an
unrelated political action (ie. consumer product safety). Whether this will
eventually cause a ban on other lead-related jobs (After all, lead industry
workers can bring lead residues home. Also, those who sell "Class A EQ"
biosolids to fertilize home gardens might just find that their products are
not welcome across the Fruited Plain. Sort of makes one wonder what Mayor
Villaraigosa is going to do with all the sh....er, manure being generated by
the Hyperion Treatment Plant). Is it any wonder that Congress has a 17%
approval rate?

Back
From The Brink?:
Kevin Duchschere reports from the Minneapolis "Red" Star Tribune
that a 3 judge panel in Minnesota has ruled that up to 4,800 "rejected"
absentee ballots (possibly including military ballots) may be considered in
the recount to determine the fate of the last remaining Senate seat in the
current Congress.
While the Court granted Al Franken's motion to limit the review downward
from some 11,000 ballots, Duchschere notes that the court did allow more
than the measly 650 that Franken was willing to let in (Kind of brings new
meaning to the old Donkey Slogan, "Count Every Vote").
It remains to be seen if the remaining ballots will some how overcome the
lead Franken has built up with his own batch of ballots seemingly discovered
out of thin air. But it will be interesting to see if Minnesota will step
back from the brink, and elect a politician that has more dignity than an
erstwhile comedian-in-Pampers with "tax issues". Stay tuned.
