To All,

     Well, that explains a lot....

In other news-

Racism Lives?:

World Net Daily is reporting on what appears to be an angry fringe group of Internet-based "NO on 8" activists who seem to be advocating the firebombing of churches over their various levels of support in California's Proposition 8 campaign.

WND even quotes one whack job as declaring that activists should "...Burn their f---ing churches to the ground...", in an apparent display of dismay over how Way Left Californian's voted on a prospective definition of marriage as one limited to heterosexual ones only.

While more rational parties will continue to explore every peaceful and legal means to oppose Prop 8 in subsequent court actions, what is dangerous for the gay rights movement (as is dangerous for any civil rights movement, firearms rights included) is that any failure to "police it's own" might allow them to be defined as too violent to be considered legitimate or even mainstream.

This is especially tricky in the Age of Obama, in that the San Francisco Chronicle also reports that Prop 8 received support of 70 percent of African American voters. If it's true that religious black voters took issue with Chief Justice Ron George's ruling early this year, then these few radical gays appear to be proposing the firebombing of black churches in a most retributive manner.

It will be interesting to see if mainstream gay activists will work to cool the rhetoric post haste, no matter the obvious disappointment that the gay community must feel over the results. Perhaps their energies would be better lent to corralling Gavin Newsom, and letting him know about how his speaking talents (which were so effectively used in television and radio spots during the campaign) may have contributed mightily to the current situation. But if they let themselves get identified by the violent few in their movement, or if any other activist group let's itself get identified by the violent and irrational few in their movements, they risk a most extreme rejection from the mainstream of America's likely voters. And that would be most counter-productive to the various agendas involved. Stay tuned.

Not So Semper Fi:

The Riverside Press Enterprise and the New York Daily News reports on a recent story of the alleged murder of a Marine sergeant and his wife by members of the Corps under that sergeant's command.

Sgt. Pietrzak and his wife Quiana

Back around October 15, 2008, Sergeant Jan Pietrzak and his wife Quiana Jenkin's-Pietrzak were found dead in their home in what appears to be an execution-style slaying. Murder, Robbery and sexual assault are also alleged in charges being filed on Kevin Darnell Cox, Emrys Justin John, Tyrone Miller and Kesaun K. Sykes. The district attorney may decide on special circumstance filings in the near future.

While the defendants are due the presumption of innocence due all citizens, the possession of items stolen from the victim's residence and the apparent "confession" of involvement in the deed by Defendant Miller seem to bode ill for the defense case.

This seems to be a case that largely appears to merit special circumstance, and if convicted the defendants should face the maximum penalty accorded by law. It will be interesting to see, now after the election has been done, that the Riverside County DA will take on the serious and difficult chore of going for the death penalty, rather than the expedient of life sentences without the possibility of parole. Such a heinous crime deserves no less.

Keep John Dingell:

All of us who have any inkling of the kind of politics that Henry Waxman (D-CA) is prone to play on industry have no qualms in taking up the cause of keeping Rep. John Dingell (D-MI) as chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

Given that there is no business that Waxman has not seen fit to loot, castigate, and otherwise act as if he were Raila Odinga (alleged 1st cousin of President-Elect Obama) passing judgment on Kikuyu refugees in Kenya, it is perhaps better in this time of financial uncertainty that Rep. Dingell hold court on the all-important Energy and Commerce Committee.

Dingell's credentials are well known to firearms owners. Without Dingell's wise handling of legislation designed to prevent spurious lawsuits against the firearms industry, we all would be looking at yet another economic sector forced to outsource well-paid manufacturing jobs to countries with sound firearms manufacturing traditions (Austria, Serbia, Russia, Brazil and others with various kinds of relationships with the US, among others).

While it's certain that Speaker Pelosi has not shown much sympathy to firearms rights issues in the past, it is more certain that she has been cognizant of the long-held traditions related to tenure in the Democrat Party. She might just find a most unruly caucus on her hands should she decide to play favorites among Wacko-Friends-Of-Nancy on one hand, and Pro-Second Amendment Democrats of all stripes on the other. She won't stay Speaker for long if she starts to pull a "Foley".
