To All,
It would seem that it would be best to buy
more guns and ammo, if one truly wishes to help the U.S. economy. The shooting
and hunting sports, self-defense prerogatives, and even the jobs one would
save might be his or her own.
In other news:
The Sounds of Silence:
AP News reporter Marc Humbert reported
yesterday that a certain junior Senator from the State of New York has been
"conveniently omitted" from a prime time slot at the Democrat Party Convention
in Boston later this month by Team Kerry.
Humbert also reports that the former
Chairwoman of the New York State Democrat Party, Judith Hope, is more than
peeved with the arrangement. This appears all the more controversial given
that Mrs. Christie Vilsack, the wife of Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack and an early
Kerry supporter, is herself getting a prime-time slot.
In addition, the situation is even more
intriguing given the recent speculation that a "defeated" John Edwards might
still be the odds-on favorite for a potential 2008 Presidential run, now that
the Fickle Finger of Fate has made him "Number 2" in John Kerry's eyes.
But one is more likely to suspect that the
Junior Senator from New York is first in line for a lifeboat than chancing
to be stuck aboard the luxury yacht S.S. Kerry when it collides with the
sensibilities of the regular American voter. Given that the current Democrat
ticket is the most socialist since the tag team of Lenin and Trotsky hit the
international hustings, it is more likely to end up on the ash heap of
campaign history than not. Stay tuned.
Story may be found at:
The Establishment Clause:
Every once and a while it is informative to
watch CNN, despite its reputation as favoring a more liberal point of view
(Word of Warning- Overexposure to CNN News Coverage is likely to turn one's
mental faculties to mush at a rate 2.7 times faster than comparable exposure
to PBS. Viewers should beware.).
In this case, the revelation comes from an
interview conducted by Daryn Kagen of Governor James McGreevey of New Jersey.
The subject initially concerned the recent flooding in New Jersey, and the
amount of structural damage that had occurred to a number of bridges.
But when Kagen surprised McGreevey with a
question as to whether his administration had maintained the affected bridges
sufficiently enough to withstand the flooding, McGreevey noted that the
flooding itself was "...an act of God...". As such, McGreevey implies
that his administration could not be held responsible for the damage, road
stoppages and construction delays to come given the extraordinary nature of
the recent rains.
Imagine the surprise of Michael Newdow and
the other Doubting Thomases at the ACLU that a secular authority had proposed
that God had anything at all to do with an event in the physical universe. But
as long as The Establishment, in the form of insurers and governments, needs
to have a catch-all category to relieve it from paying out on damage claims of
one kind or another, it seems that there may be a use after all for an
official recognition by the state of an All-Powerful Diety. As such, there now
seems to be a practical limit to the current efforts by those who
wish to confine religious beliefs to the sanctuaries and narthexes of Main
Street America. Given the Founder's reliance on "...God-given rights..." in
the formulation of the Constitution and the Second Amendment, this is "...a
good thing..." to happen, and in the nick of time.
If anything, the Establishment should reverse
field on the latest efforts by the atheists among us, in an effort to reduce
liability claims all around. Imagine the kind of tort reform that could be
enacted should an ever increasing set of injuries and damages be reclassified
as having been "acts of God". The cost savings alone could theoretically
offset the entire loss related to offshoring over the past decade. And who
would have thought that the old hymn "(Give Me) That Old Time Religion" would
be so appropriate in this day of multiculturalism, Hegelianism, and crass
materialism? If anything, this sounds like a miracle in the making.
Mysterious are the ways of Providence...
