In 1871, the NRA was founded on the principal that individual
rights are best safeguarded by the guarantee of the 2nd Amendment.
For more than 133 years the NRA has stood watch over our rights.
As in the past, NRA members have defended the rights that we exercise
today. The rights that our children will inherit in the future,
depend upon the actions of NRA members. The NRA has brought together
its active membership with a program called "NRA Members'
Councils".
NRA Members' Councils are NOT hunting or gun clubs. The Members'
Councils are SINGLE ISSUE volunteer organizations that are dedicated
to getting gun owners involved in protecting their rights. Since
NRA Members' Councils are not separate or autonomous organizations,
no dues, fees or charges are required for participation in the
program. Membership in the NRA and registering to vote are the
requirements to join a Members' Council.
Participation in the NRA Members' Council Program is not for
everyone. Some people find the rules and guidelines within the
program to be either too constraining or not strict enough. That's
okay. All supporters of the Second Amendment have the right to
find their own place within the pro-Second Amendment effort.
Whether or not an activist chooses to be active in a NRA Members'
Council, we encourage all Second Amendment supporters to join
and maintain membership in the National Rifle Association and the California Rifle & Pistol Association.
An NRA Members' Council is not affiliated with any political
party, politician, political issue, or tied to any political organization.
The Members' Councils are not fund raising organizations, but
focus NRA resources to bring the NRA's message of "Safety,
Responsibility and Freedom" to the local community.
The object and purpose of NRA Members' Councils are:
- Educate and foster public awareness of the "Right to
Keep and Bear Arms" as articulated in the Second Amendment
of the U.S. Constitution.
- The protection of our citizen's rights as enumerated in the
Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights.
- Promote the policies and programs of the National Rifle Association.
- Increase the membership of the NRA.
- Provide Self-Protection and Firearms Safety training to the
local community.
- Protect our Hunting Heritage.
- Advise and participate with the NRA staff regarding NRA programs,
policies, local government, candidates and issues.
Join your
local NRA Members' Council today. Do not let the "Politics
of Gun Control" mislead your neighbors about the Second
Amendment and your right to defend your family.
