These ACTION ITEMS are placed here as an informational service to the NRA Members' Councils and Second Amendment activists throughout the state of California.

A MESSAGE FROM CHUCK MICHEL, NRA'S CALIFORNIA ATTORNEY

I have mailed out almost 200 Public Record Act Requests regarding CCW policies and practices in the past two weeks. I'm starting to get responses, some of which ask for hundreds of dollars to cover copying costs for documents.

If its worth it, I'll pay the money, but I think some of this is tactical. I know the LCAV has been made aware of the PRARs, and has probably suggested charging through the roof and including all kinds of irrelevant BS to jack up the price.

They also know I can't travel all over the state to inspect these things and figure out what I really need. That's where I need help.

I need volunteers to go out, on behalf of my firm, to inspect the documents in the cities near you and cull out the BS from the stuff we really want. A PRAR entitles you to inspect and copy, so we can inventory everything then only copy what we really need.

If you are able to help out, please respond via fax (310) 548-4813 or email and leave your name and contact info. Let me know what cities nearby you could go to, and how much time you can give me.

I'll be sending a list of the cities that we requested info from on Monday, if you want to review that before responding.

We intend to put together a "Commission" to study CCW practices using this information, and I expect we'll uncover allot of favoritism.

A follow-up message from Chuck Michel

I have received a number of offers from folks volunteering to review CCW materials. I appreciate you offers, and am keeping everyone's contact info in a file to use in the upcoming weeks.

Apparently, some folks believe that I need someone to go to every city on the list. That is not the case. Most cities are simply copying and sending us their info. Some cities, however, have lots of material and want to charge hundreds of dollars. Those cities may require someone to inspect and inventory the material before we spend the money.

We're developing a checklist/questionaire for inspectors and will forward it to people before they are sent out.

If you already volunteered, thanks. If not, and you can, email me. Otherwise, please stand by. We are processing over 200 responses, will review what we get, and then send out folks to get the rest.
