M. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ IMPORTANT LEGISLATIVE ACTIVITY After receiving a large volume of correspondence from concerned firearms owners, the city of Moreno Valley, CA has decided to refer the issue of a proposed BB gun ordinance to a safety sub-committee for more "study." They took no other action on this matter. The vote to refer the ordinance was 5 - 0. The mayor has invited NRA to offer input regarding the ordinance
after the Eddie
Eagle GunSafe(R) Program was mentioned an alternative to
the ordinance. Thanks to all of you who helped on this effort.
Now WE have
a seat a the table. We gave them a gracious way out, and they took it. In doing so, we avoided a fight and now have the possibility of making something productive come of this issue. AB496, one of two bills (SB682 is the other) seek to repeal part of the Civil Code 1714 that deals with product liability was granted a "reconsideration" vote in the State Assembly on Tuesday, August 27th. It passed and is now headed to the Governor. These bills were redrafted and gutted/amended from bills that were initially introduced to do other things. These bills were changed after the anti-gun advocates lost their "101 California Street lawsuit" against the firearms industry in the California State Supreme Court. The repeal of current law would only open the door of litigation to the manufacturers of lawful and legal consumer products. Manufacturers of lawful products should not be held responsible for the actions of criminals or any person who uses the product in a negligent manner. Let Governor Davis know that you want him to VETO AB496 (and SB682 if it gets to his desk).
SB682 failed to pass its "reconsideration" vote in the Assembly and now heads to the Senate. A complete listing of all of the State Senate Members' phone/fax/email information can be found HERE. You can send a single email to each of the State Senators by CLICKING HERE . By sending one email to that address, each one of the senators will receive a copy of your message (so it is probably a good idea to address your messages with: Dear Senator,). Call, fax and email them. Let them know that you want them to OPPOSE SB682!
