IMPORTANT LEGISLATIVE ACTIVITY

This information is accurate at the time this CAL-ERT was written and originally distributed. The scheduled times and dates for hearings are subject to change, by the legislature, with little or no advance notice. The NRA Members' Councils of California will keep you informed as the legislative situation changes in Sacramento.

There are several firearms related bills scheduled to be heard on Tuesday, April 22, 2003 and Tuesday, April 29, 2003. PLEASE CONTINUE TO CONTACT THE LEGISLATURE!

Scheduled to be heard in the Assembly Public Safety Committee on April 22nd:
AB336
(Parra) This bill would delete the five-year expiration provisions of the Handgun Safety Certificate (H.S.C.) and restore provisions that the H.S.C. receipt would be good for life. --SUPPORT

Scheduled to be heard in the Assembly Public Safety Committee on April 29th:
AB50
(Koretz) This bill would ban the sale/possession of rifles that are chambered for the .50 BMG cartridge and the sale/possession of .50BMG cartridges. --OPPOSE

Scheduled to be heard in the Assembly Health Committee on April 29th:
AB992
(Ridley-Thomas) This bill would levy a tax on the sale of ammunition of 10 cents on every cartridge sold at retail to fund medical trauma centers. --OPPOSE

Scheduled to be heard in the Senate Public Safety Committee on April 29th:
SB190
(Scott) This bill would require that all semiautomatic handguns manufactured after January 2005 that are imported and sold in California be equipped with a loaded chamber indicator and a magazine disconnect mechanism. --OPPOSE

Actions requested:
Please contact members of the Assembly Public Safety Committee and urge them to SUPPORT AB336 and OPPOSE AB50. Also, contact members of the Assembly Health Committee and urge them to OPPOSE AB992. Also, contact members of the Senate Public Safety Committee and urge them to OPPOSE SB190.
